A Dreamy Winter Family Session at Newcastle Ocean Baths (finally ticking this location off my location wish list)

Through the window, into their world. A quiet little moment outside Newcastle Ocean Baths - just them, close and connected.

There are some locations I dream of photographing - and Newcastle Ocean Baths has been one of these spots. The colours, the ocean, the curves of the pool walls, that raw coastal energy... it's iconic. So when this beautiful mum said yes to the idea, I may have done a very quiet (but very real) happy dance.

This session was extra special. Their teenage daughter was visiting from Indonesia, and it felt like the perfect excuse to hit pause on the chaos of life and just be together. To soak in this fleeting moment as a family, and bottle it up forever in photos.

Winter might be considered the "slow season" in photography and tourism circles, but I'll be honest - there's something kind of magical about shooting during the cooler months. The light is softer. The beaches are quieter (mostly). And families are more likely to snuggle in a little closer.

That said, the Baths definitely made us work for it! Between swimmers in speedos doing laps, people sitting right in our frame, and a few very curious onlookers, we had to move quickly, get creative with angles, and make the most of every quiet moment.

But wow - did it deliver!

The connection. The laughter. The softness of that golden light slipping through their hair. It all came together in a way that honestly felt like a dream realised.

One of the things I love most about this job is getting to turn a little vision in my head into something real - something tangible that a family can hold onto forever.
